Staff permissions explained
How Randvu's permission model actually works — Owner plus a set of permission keys, with preset shortcuts.
Last updated 2026-06-29
Randvu doesn't have a fixed list of named roles. There's the salon Owner, who has every permission and is set at signup — and there's a set of permission keys that decide what every other staff member can do. To make the Add/Edit Staff form less tedious, preset pills let you flip a typical combination of permissions in one click.
The core permissions
Permissions are grouped into five sections on the staff form. A staff member sees a sidebar item or page only if the underlying permission is ticked.
Daily ops
- Bookings — view and manage the calendar, create / move / cancel bookings.
- Clients — view and edit client records.
- Communications — see and act on the Notifications inbox.
Catalog & team
- Catalog — create / edit / delete services and categories.
- Staff management — invite, edit, and remove staff. Marked Sensitive.
Salon setup
- Salon settings — booking rules, policies, feature toggles, location editor.
- Salon branding — logo, cover image, palette, gallery.
Marketing
- Booking link — the public slug and the sharing tools.
- Promotions — coupons and promo codes.
- Reviews — respond to reviews.
Business
- Billing — subscription and payment method on file. Marked Sensitive.
- Reports — read access to all reports.
Point of Sale, inventory & payouts permissions
The commerce features add their own access controls, so you can let a cashier ring sales without handing over the bank account. Each is granted per staff member and gates both the sidebar item and the in-screen actions:
- POS — view the register and sales history, and (at the higher level) operate the register and take payments.
- Refunds, Discounts, Cash drawer, and Card readers — separate switches on top of POS, so taking payment and issuing refunds (or opening the drawer, or managing hardware) are granted independently.
- Inventory, Suppliers, Purchase orders, and Stock counts — view or manage the Inventory & purchasing tools.
- Payouts — view the Stripe balance and payouts, or (at the higher level) change the schedule and onboard.
- Tax rate — edit the salon's tax rate used at checkout.
The four preset pills
At the top of the permissions section on the staff form there are four pills. Picking one ticks (or unticks) the underlying checkboxes — you can adjust any of them afterwards, and the pill will switch to Custom.
| Preset | What it ticks |
|---|---|
| Receptionist | Bookings, Clients, Communications |
| Manager | Everything except Billing and Staff management |
| Full access | All twelve permissions |
| Custom | Leaves whatever you've ticked by hand |
Note that the Manager preset deliberately leaves out Staff management as well as Billing — if you want someone who can also invite teammates, pick Full access or tick Staff management manually.
Owner vs everyone else
The Owner is created at signup and is stored separately from the permission list. They always have every permission, including the ones marked Sensitive. There's no preset pill for Owner — you can't promote a staff member into the Owner role from the UI, and self-serve deleting the workspace isn't available (the Danger zone says Contact support to delete).
Editing permissions later
Open Staff, click the row for that teammate, and use the Permissions section on the Edit Staff form. It's the same panel you saw at create time, with the same five groups and the same four preset pills. There's no separate Permissions tab — everything lives on the one editor page.
Audit log
Salon-side auditing isn't shipped yet. The only audit log surface in the codebase is the platform-admin view at /platform/audit, which is for Randvu staff investigating accounts — not for salon owners reviewing their own team's activity.
